Club Beach Dive Report to Reef Point
February 9, 2002
Report: By Reggie Woods
Some Days You Just Get Lucky!
We had fun again! The monthly club beach dive proved to be another great experience. We met at Reef Point which is north of downtown Laguna Beach off Highway 1 at 9:00 am on Saturday February 9. There was ample parking since it is located part of Crystal Cove State Beach. Normally there is an entrance fee, but because we arrived so early the gate attendants were not yet in place. Showers and restrooms were conveniently located on site. The skies were clear and the water temp was between 55 to 58 degrees. Visibility was about 10-15 feet and we saw a variety of sea life. The waves were relatively calm.
It was a little difficult at first determining who was who because a local high school had what appeared to be a group or class of skin divers numbering about 30 to 40 people. The following people participated in our club beach dive: Jim Lange, Arch Kaaua, Gary Cornell, Wes Williams, David Garthwaite and myself, Reggie Woods. I think attendance was partially affected because of the tumultuous winds that were blowing with extra high force in the Inland Empire. Yet at the beach, there was a calm!
Divers reported seeing an abundance of sea life, including some of the largest lobsters spotted this bug season. Divers reached maximum depths of about 50 feet. That’s pretty good for a beach dive.
Join us next month at our next club dive. It is a great time to
meet new divers as well as practice the sport you love.
