The next Club Meeting is Tuesday June 3rd, 2008. Please mark your calendar! Feeding Frenzy/Social Hour starts at 6:00 pm with the meeting starting at 7:00 pm at Fuddruckers @ Ontario Mills on the South Side of Fourth Street. The address for Fuddruckers is: 4423 Mills Circle See you there! Dear Members, The weather has been excellent over the past few weeks. I wish that the water temperature was a little on the higher side, but I can’t complain too much. The visibility in the local spots hasn’t been the best, but if you lucky, you can have some excellent days. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t been out this year to dust off his or her gear and get into the water. You should start to see more about the Scuba Show this June in Long Beach. I was looking at the seminar list, and this year there are many interesting presentations. If you haven’t had the chance to look at the list of vendors and all of the seminars, please check out the website at www.scubashow.com. Also, this is a great place to plan that next dive trip to a warm water location. I know it is a little early, but don’t forget about our annual dive club picnic. We will have plenty of burgers and hot dogs for after the dive. Like last year, we will be having this event at Picnic Beach in Laguna. At the next meeting we will be passing a signup sheet, so we can estimate how many club members will be attending. If anyone would like to help with this function, please talk to one of our club board members. I was reading an article in the PADI Undersea Journal about the popularity of scuba diving and what motivates people to want to dive. In this article they talked about a correlation between underwater photographers and the desire to scuba dive. The article mentioned the more underwater photos are shown to people, the more they would want to dive. I’m sure there was some data to back this up, but I still a little confused. The scuba dive industry as a whole has seen a reduction in participants for the past few years, but the underwater camera business has always seem to grow. It is now easier and more cost effective then every for all divers to take good underwater photos. This would imply, from the Journal’s article, scuba diving would be growing. The article stated the pictures would have to be show to potential divers, and this would generate an interest. I would have to say the more pictures I take, the less I show. I could remember my first camera that took film pictures. I would show friends and family, but you would be hard press to see whatever it was underwater. I don’t think this generated much interest. As I got better, both in skill and equipment, I could see a difference in the reactions. Now, I too picky about what pictures I keep verses what I put in the delete bucket. I think maybe this is where the article was going. We have to show more pictures to generate more interest. Bringing this full circle, our guest speaker for this month is Kevin Lee. If you remember he had a great presentation last time he spoke to our club. I hoping with his presentation more of our club members will be motivated to get back in the water.
